GE Healthcare’s Centricity Pharmacy Information System electronically manages pharmacy and drug-related information across a network of healthcare facilities, with the aim of providing the necessary information tools that enable pharmacists to efficiently distribute and monitor medications.

It has been documented that approximately 40% of all errors are made at the patient’s bedside, said Vishal Wanchoo, president of IT, part of GE HealthcareWanchoo. Recent studies have indicated that the implementation of a pharmacy information system can result in a reduction in medication errors by up to 50%.

The platform also includes services such as consulting, training, project management and ongoing 24X7 software support. According to the company, it is available on a standalone basis or as part of the full GE Centricity suite of healthcare software applications.

The agreement between GE and Tricare will proceed on a project-by-project basis with the potential for a 10-year duration and more than $80m in revenue for GE. The company anticipates that its system could potentially be rolled out globally for Department of Defense use.
