Guess everyone knows by now that it was Bill Gates who won Leonardo Da Vinci’s Codex Hammer notebooks with his bid of $30.8m: the Microsoft Corp chairman now plans to lend the treasure to the Italian company he outbid when he won the manuscript; Gates’ bid topped one by the Milan-based Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde SpA, Europe’s biggest savings bank, which had wanted to return the Codex to Italy, and he will now loan it for a year; the name traditionally goes to the new owner so is it now the Codex Gates, Codex Microsoft, Codex Windows?
