Fujitsu has signed a five-year IT services contract with Her Majesty’s Treasury (HMT) to provide desktop, laptop and multi-functional devices, a secure service desk and data storage and disaster recovery facilities.

Fujitsu says that the deal will improve support and service standards at HMT by implementing strict SLAs. Workers will also now be able to work remotely, which it is hoped will improve productivity.

The project is being delivered as part of public sector Flex, a framework that enables Fujitsu to provide ICT as a shared service across the public sector. The Flex framework runs in conjunction with the Cabinet Office.

HMT joins other government bodies such as The Cabinet Office, The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass), Crossrail and The Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the scheme.

“The decision to enter the Flex framework is one which will benefit the organisation in many ways. Fujitsu will help us to accomplish our vision of a modern, flexible, secure and resilient ICT service,” said HMT CIO Karen Delafield. “The partnership will deliver significant efficiencies whilst also providing a level of flexibility and scalability which cannot be achieved by maintaining services in-house. It also enables us to participate in the Government shared service in line with our own Operational Efficiency Programme.”

As part of the contract, some HMT staff will transfer to Fujitsu under the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) arrangement.

The Flex framework was announced in May 2007 by Fujitsu and the Cabinet Office. Its aim is to improve back office infrastructure and systems to free up resources for front line service.
