Caldera Systems Inc has struck a deal with Fujitsu Ltd which will see the Japanese giant distributing OpenLinux 2.3 and subsequent versions on its servers, including the top-of-the-line GranPower series. This is Fujitsu’s first commitment to a Linux distribution; the company follows IBM, Dell, Compaq and HP into the open-source operating system market. We began seriously watching Linux a year ago, explained Kanzunari Morimoto, GM of Fujitsu’s Software Business Promotion Group, and in that time we’ve seen it grow from a relatively unknown technology to a business OS – especially in the server area. Fujitsu executives say shipping OpenLinux on GranPower servers is just the first step. Customers can expect a complete range of internet appliances and devices from the new partners, as well as expanded Linux business initiatives in Japan.
