There was no word if Belgacom will come back with a higher offer but European markets were full of speculation about the possibility of further bids for the company.
In a move to fend off Belgacom, Telindus made operational and financial information available to other potential bidders. BT, France Telecom, and Dutch IT services firm Getronics were all considered to have an interest in the company.
France Telecom said Telindus’s expertise and position in the network integration services market would be an additional asset for the company.
France Telecom owns 50.2% of Belgian’s second largest mobile operator Mobistar and this would be boosted by the 4% that Telindus owns in the company. But France Telecom said it has no intention of buying out the remaining shareholders.
