Consumers will be able to download films including The X-Men: The Last Stand and TV shows such as 24 from Fox’ Direct2Drive service and transfer them to Windows Media-compatible portable devices.

New films will cost $19.99 to download, while TV episodes will be priced at $1.99. News Corp- owned IGN Entertainment websites will launch the service in October, while MySspace and other sites will follow next year.

Apple’s iTunes store currently sells Fox TV shows such as 24 for $1.99, but they can only be played on iPods or through iTunes software.
