Fox Software Inc, Perrysburg, Ohio is planning to release a new micro relational database next month, pitched at the same market that Ashton-Tate Corp is going for with dBase IV, reports Microbytes Daily. Fox says that the new FoxPro will be identical to dBase IV at the command level, but its user interface will be similar to that of the Apple Macintosh, with pull-down menus and mouse cursor control. Entirely character-based, it will run on MS-DOS machines with 512Kb memory. The program will not implement SQL in the first version, but the company plans to add the database query language in the second release, promised for early next year, with SQL and FoxBase code types able to co-exist, even within the same query, without the need to translate between them. FoxPro will also improve on FoxBase Plus with unlimited length memo fields and string fields of up to 64Kb.
