San Diego, California-based Horizons Technology Inc and the Fox Movietone News Inc division of Fox News Inc are in partnership to develop and market a multimedia CD-ROM database designed to enable rapid search and retrieval of thousands of historical events, faces and places, which is to be made available to studios, production houses and publishing companies. A single frame from each subject in the newsreel will be visually incorporated into the database, along with key words and phrases. The database will also include Horizon’s fuzzy search technology, making it possible to find segments even when the user is unsure of the precise word or if the information contains missing, extra or misspelled words. Over 100,000 clips in the current Movietone News Library will be represented on a single CD-ROM. Horizon will also incorporate a network for the data input and editing system to provide quality control before it is mastered to CD-ROM. No prices.
