Pittsburgh-based Fore Systems Inc has announced the shipment of version 2.0 of its ForeView Network Management Software, a suite of management applications for the company’s ForeRunner Asynchronous Transfer Mode networks. ForeView 2.0 includes a channel tracer which, via a point-and-click interface, shows how virtual circuits are routed, end-to-end, through the Asynchronous Transfer Mode network. It identifies the port, virtual path indicator and virtual channel indicator for each input and output throughout the circuit. Fore also claims that ForeView 2.0 is the only network management application to provide Switched Permanent Virtual Circuit. By clicking on the end circuits on the network diagram, it says, ForeView automatically configures a Permanent Virtual Circuit to the optimal route. These circuits are also automatically re-routed in the event of network failure. Also new is a statistics graphing and logging capability that can provide usage and error statistics from Fore Asynchronous Transfer Mode host adaptors as well as switch ports, paths and channels in the network. ForeView 2.0 is available now, with US pricing starting at $5,000.
