Multimedia broadcasting company, The Fantastic Corp, has announced an agreement with Astranet at Milia this week to deliver content using IP Multicast protocol over satellite. Fantastic is the Zug, Switzerland based company that Intel Corp agreed to work with back in December to work on delivering content to personal computers via broadband infrastructures including satellite, digital terrestrial and digital subscriber line. The agreement with Astranet will widen the availability of IP Multicast transmission services to business users throughout Europe, the company said. Fantastic’s software technology incorporates a subscription layer that can keep track of what and where data is being transmitted, and enables content and application providers to audit to whom, where and when information is broadcast. Possible applications for the technology include file transfer, software distribution, distance learning, video presentations, catalog and price list distribution and database synchronization. Astranet is operated by European Satellite Multimedia Services SA (ESM). The company’s shareholders are SociTtT EuropTenne des Satellites (SES), Intel Corp, Deutsche Telekom AG, Hughes Network Systems and P&T Luxembourg.
