Facebook has released the new version 5.0 of its applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPad which will allow faster access for users who access the service through mobile devices.
According to the company, the new software version is aimed at doubling the speed for starting the application and scrolling via the News Feed, along with increased speeds for opening photos from News Feed.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in his Facebook wall: "We just released a new Facebook app for iPhone and iPad and it’s a lot faster … It’s a big step forward."
The new Facebook 5.0 application will also be compatible with 4.3 versions and new Apple mobile operating system.
Facebook product manager Mick Johnson said that the company has kept the visual layout almost similar to the earlier version.
"The focus of this was performance," Johnson said.
Facebook also revealed that the new version of the app for iPad will also enable the operators to create a "timeline" which can be prepared on Facebook in other versions.
According to Facebook, the new mobile application will also receive other enhancements which include a single finger swipe for closing photos.
During its initial offerings in May 2012, Facebook has lost about half its value as it efforts to generate advertising income from the rising the number of users who access the service on mobile devices.
According to the company, about half of the social-network’s 955 million users will visit the site on smartphones and tablets.
