Storage management software house Tricord Systems Inc has recruited Compaq Computer Corp co-founder and former chief executive Rod Canion to take an active role on its management team. The Plymouth, Minnesota-based company said Friday that Canion will join Tricord chairman and CEO John Mitcham in a newly-created office of the CEO. Canion has been tapped to lend a hand as the company accelerates development and marketing efforts to introduce new products, Tricord said. Canion had already been a Tricord investor.

Former Compaq Computer Corp CEO Canion has been bankrolling cash-strapped Tricord, which is run by a raft of former Compaq top executives. Canion says he will assume an active management role. He joins chairman and CEO John Mitcham in the newly-created office of the CEO. Intel server vendor Tricord is struggling to re-invent itself as a storage management software company but does not expect revenue from these new products until the second half of the year.
