Vendors with positive ratings of at least 98 out of 100 points, and 50 or more comments from previous customers, will be the only ones who can list PS3s on the online marketplace. PS3 listings are also restricted to one per eBay account.
PS3 sellers must also provide a photo of the pre-order receipt, and guarantee shipment within 30 days of the purchase date. The consoles can only be listed as auction items, not as ‘buy it now.’
The suggested retail price for the basic PS3 with a 20GB drive is $500. On eBay, however, the going price is nearing the $2,300 mark. There are currently 3,144 PS3s and related items listed on the auction site.
eBay’s PS3 policy will also be applied to the sale of Nintendo’s Wii console, which goes on sale on November 19, 2006.
