Rambus Inc, the Mountain View, California-based provider of high- speed memory chip interface technology, has reported second- quarter net income up 12.1% at $2.0m on revenue up 2.2% at $9.9m. Six-month net income rose 21.4% to $4.1m on revenue up 7.3% at $20.4m. Earnings per share rose 14.3% to $0.08 for the quarter, matching the First Call consensus, and 14.3% to $0.16 for the six months. After certain delays, Intel is now indicating a September launch of its Rambus-based chipset for use in PC main memory applications and Rambus says it anticipates major volume shipments of Rambus ICs for the PC market will start in the December quarter, with revenues to follow in the March 2000 quarter. Since additional expenses to support the launch are still anticipated, the company says it expects its earnings to be no better than flat with second quarter results through the balance of the calendar year.
