Floppy disk media veteran Dysan Corp, Milpitas, California, has had to go to the German chemicals giant Hoechst AG in Wiesbaden to leap aboard the emerging erasable optical disk drive bandwaggon with a line of magneto-optical disk platters. Dysan has signed an OEM deal with Hoechst for 5.25 disks, which it is offering at $225. Hoechst began selling 5.25 and 3.5 disks last April and its Ozadisc plant has capacity for 1m platters a year (CI No 1,553). Dysan claims to be doing $150m a year: formerly an Anacomp Inc firm, it’s now owned by Hanny Magnetics Ltd of Hong Kong.
