DVD player sales reached 437,000 units in their first year in the US, according to the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association. This week marks the first anniversary of the technology’s release. The Arlington, Virginia based Association said these sales have been backed by a steady proliferation of software titles , around 800 of which are offered by 30 labels including the home video divisions of many Hollywood studios. Sales of players are 12 times that of CD players in their first year of introduction in 1993. DVD player manufacturers include Hitachi, JVC, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Philips, Pioneer, Sony, Thomson, Toshiba and Zenith.
