While we are still waiting to hear from Novell Inc about its anticipated Iona Technologies Ltd-based object strategy, the Dublin company promises some interesting news shortly. In the meantime, Iona was also hosting an Object Management Group meeting last week that was to consider an application programming interface for linking transaction processing systems to object request brokers. The application programming interface, being proposed by nine vendors, including Digital Equipment Corp, IBM Corp, Sun Microsystems Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co, Novell, Transarc Corp and Tandem Computers Inc, was formulated at the Object Management Group’s meeting back in June, and it forms a part of the efforts at standardisation.
