Microsoft is not negotiating for a settlement in its federal trial, according to Assistant Attorney General Joel Klein, head of the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice. We have not received any settlement proposal from Microsoft, Klein said in response to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The Justice Department has always been and remains open to a settlement that fully protects customers and assures that similar antitrust violations do not occur in the future. Let me just add, that if there are to be any settlement discussions, it is best that they occur directly between the parties, so I will not be commenting further.
