One way and another it looks as if Racal Electronics Plc got its Racal Telecommunications Group Plc flotation away and the cash safely in the bank, only just in time: not only is the world about to wake up to the fact that Telepoint cordless phone systems are likely to be a runaway success – the Christmas present for the December 1989 season perhaps – that will crimp the growth of the cellular market, but the dissatisfaction with cellular service is rising to a crescendo, and yesterday, the Telecommunications Users Association was publicising the results of a survey of 270 companies that are big cellular users, and found that 82% of Vodafone were dissatisfied, 72% of Cellnet users, and that there was also anger at the usurious rates British Telecom charges for connecting its customers to the cellular networks; the Office of Telecommunications is now studying the survey’s findings.
