Digital Communications Associates Inc, Alpharetta, Georgia has announced strategic partnerships with Banyan Systems and Digital Equipment Corp. The Banyan agreement will result in the two companies working side by side on the development and marketing of products to integrate IBM SNA networks with Banyan Vines networks. Digital Communications is to customise its IrmaLAN/EP gateway software for use with the Vines network operating system (this will be renamed and repackaged by Banyan), and both companies will develop a Vines/SNA communications server for access to single or multiple IBM mainframes or other peer computers on an SNA network. The agreement with DEC was announced to coincide with the launch of the first product to be developed as a result of the it, the IrmaLAN DOS Client for the DECnet/SNA Gateway. This is aimed at users of the DEC SDLC or channel-attached DECnet/SNA gateways in Pathworks-based networks who have a need for full featured 3270 terminal emulation with an IBM mainframe. The broader aims of the agreement are to provide customised Digital Communications products for users of DCA’s Personal Computer System Architecture.
