The reference design is an advanced audio/video solution that enables televisions to access a wide variety of content such as music, photos and movies over a wireless network from a Windows PC, media gateway, or Internet connection. The design combines a Sigma EM8620L media processor and multimedia software from Digital 5 into one integrated, low-cost platform.
The Digital 5 content distribution software incorporates advanced Quality of Service (QoS), industry standard DRM technology and streaming of premium content. Its technology supports industry standards and enables interoperability across multiple devices to allow the communication and sharing of information and media content across multiple wired or wireless home networks.
With the vast amounts of video and audio content available to consumers, it is essential to create devices that can securely retrieve and distribute that content throughout the home, said Michael Harris, president of Digital 5. We are pleased to work with Sigma Designs to make this reference design possible for OEMs and ODMs so they can rapidly meet the needs of this growing market.
The EM8620L media processor from Sigma Designs provides a complete single- chip solution for next generation IP video and connected media players, featuring high definition Windows Media Video 9 support. The EM8620L offers a wide range of media processing functions for video decoding, audio decoding, and graphics processing based on REALmagic® HD technology, for the highest quality image possible on high definition displays. For single-chip systems, it features an on-chip RISC processor, PCI-bus, IDE controller and additional peripheral ports for supporting other subsystems.
The reference design is available now for OEMs and ODMs to deliver products to market in 2005.
