Delta Data Systems Corp, now trading under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection (CI No 1,304), has disposed of its UK subsidiary in a management buyout. Welwyn Garden City-based Delta Data Systems Ltd, renamed as Information Technology Security International Ltd, or IT Security International, was established in 1972, employs a staff of 43, and specialises in the field of high security tempested products. The company reported a UKP3.5m turnover for 1988-1989, but claims that profit is difficult to decipher since it was calculated on a global basis, and included the operations of the troubled parent company. Over the past 12 months, the management structure has altered radically, and the new team is now headed by Sir James Glover, formerly Commander-in-Chief UK Land Forces, as chairman. He joined some 16 months ago and a subsequent review of company direction ushered in a number of new faces from companies like Prime, Olivetti, and NCR. As part of the restructuring, Delta Data’s Third Party Service division was sold to Pericom Plc in February 1989 for UKP325,000 (CI No 1,111). The new marketing director, Alistair Bremner, says that the UK business was at odds with the company’s primary focus, and an area in which the company had become involved almost by default. IT Security still trades with Delta Data Systems Corp, but in a partly defensive move, it has established relationships with other US suppliers. Bremner anticipates that the next few years will see tha company develop much stronger commercial links, and he forecasts a 50-50 split between commercial and defence-oriented business. More emphasis will be put on such application areas as secure networks for electronic fund transfer, cryptography, and Smart Cards.
