The Round Rock, Texas-based company said the new products, which include two consumer notebooks, a 30-gigabyte portable music player and a portable digital projector, are designed to facilitate access to digital entertainment for consumers on the go.

The first notebook computer, a redesigned Inspiron XPS Gen 2, is intended to provide high levels of 3D gaming performance in a mobile platform. It includes a 17-inch display, graphics card, Windows XP Home Edition and Intel’s 2GHz Pentium M processor.

It is thought that Dell will market this product at the gaming community, but there are concerns that people in that group prefer to build their own systems or purchase PCs from smaller vendors with good reputations such as Alienware and Voodoo Computers. It is also feared that Advanced Micro Devices’ technology has won their overall support.

The second notebook, an Inspiron 9300, is a multimedia powerhouse with a 17-inch widescreen and optional TV Tuner, Intel’s 2.1GHz Pentium M chip and ports for connecting video and audio devices. It is expected to be available in March.

Dell also said it will implement Microsoft’s Windows Media DRM 10 in its DJ music players, both available in March, to give customers more options for accessing music and helping to protect content providers. The 30-gigabyte device holds up to 15,000 songs, and the Dell DJ20 will support WM DRM10 technology and be PlaysForSure-compliant in March, joining the already-compliant Dell Pocket DJ.

A final addition is the 1100MP Projector is designed to offer video features that let customers turn any room into a media room. It provides a 2,100:1 contrast ratio and 1,400-lumens max performance which aim to provide imporved image depth and clarity. It is expected to arrive next month.
