National Semiconductor Corp is making progress in its planned retreat from Israel: in May, it announced that it would turn its plant in Migdal Haemek over to a consortium of local companies and the government and retain only 19.9% of the venture itself (CI No 1,929). Now it says it signed a memorandum of understanding with Defense Software & Systems Inc for the latter to take the whole 80.1% stake on offer in the joint venture, which currently does integrated circuits for local networks, personal computers and embedded control applications. The terns of the agreement have not been disclosed.
