Digital Equipment Corp has joined the ranks of companies turning on their former partner Intel Corp – DEC has been taking some personal computers OEM from Intel as well as using its chips by agreeing to fabricate Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s Am486 microprocessors at its South Queensferry, Scotland plant, supplying it with finished wafers.The foundry pact runs for an initial two years from the fourth quarter; output will rise to a 2m annual rate by mid-1995. DEC will use its 0.68 micron process but will move to a 0.5 micron process; Advanced Micro is already at 0.5 microns.
