DEC last week fine tuned the prices of its VAX 8000s and MicroVAX 2000, reducing prices on low-end models and raising them on the top-end 8700 and 8800. It also increased the minimum and maximum main memory on most models. The MicroVAX 2000 is slashed by 17% to 20%, but no details were available. The maximum main memory on the 8250 and 83%0 goes to 128Mb from 32Mb; the minimum is now 16Mb and 32Mb respectively. The 16Mb 8250 with VMS licence is reduced 4.2% to $92,000; the 32Mb 8350 falls 6% to $124,000. A block of 16Mb add-on memory is now $8,000. On the 8530 and 8550, the minimum main memory is raised to 32Mb from 16Mb and the maximum to 256Mb from 80Mb. An 8530 with 32Mb and VMS is reduced by 1.4% to $342,000; a 32Mb 8550 falls 5.6% to $479,000. Minimum and maximum main memory on the 8700 and 8800 have been raised to 48Mb from 32Mb and to 256Mb from 128Mb. A 48Mb 8700 is up 4.9% at $592,000; a 64Mb 8800 is up 3.8% at $885,000. A new, more compact local area VAXcluster interface is $21,000, the same price as the one it replaces, but the new one obviates the need for a Unibus channel, which used to cost another $13,000.
