The acquisitive dealership and maintenance company, Datapro Computers Ltd, has been indulging in a seasonal spending spree and acquired yet two more companies. Systrex Ltd was bought at the begining of December, and this was shortly followed by the acquisition of Carrington Ltd, a London-based IBM and Apricot dealer. Apart from its IBM-oriented business, Systrex-Datapro as it’s now called, supplies and maintains word processing systems, especially Wang stand-alone systems, and it leases or sells second user equipment. Carrington-Datapro deals in IBM, Apricot, and Apple equipment, and like Systrex, is involved in computer maintenance and desktop publishing. Datapro Computers, headquartered in Horsham, Surrey has pursued an active acquisition policy over the past few years. A succession of IBM and Apricot dealers including Ellipsys, Midas, and Southern Micro have come under the Datapro umbrella, and the group now has a nationwide network of offices. The acquisition of Ipswich-based Microtek in August last year, (CI No 1,232), brought Datapro’s turnover to around the UKP5m mark. Both Systrex and Carrington were turning over around UKP2.5m and employed about 40 members of staff. Datapro wouldn’t comment on any restructuring or rationalisation that may take place, nor would it reveal the cost of the acquisitions.
