DataEase International Ltd has bought the consultancy division of Sapphire UK Ltd, originally part of DataEase. This acquisition follows the merger announced in October 1991 of DataEase International Inc, Trumbull, Connetticut, with Londonbased Sapphire International Plc, creating DataEase Sapphire International Group. This new entity had a combined revenue of $40m (CI No 1,785). The company says it will use the new division to provide worldwide consultancy, linking DataEase front ends into large back-end servers like Oracle and Sybase. Following this purchase, 90% of the organisation will consist of former Sapphire employees, with the rest of the staff coming from DataEase. In the meantime, DataEase has introduced more SQL communications modules for the AS/400 and IBM Corp’s Distributed Relational Database Architecture. The modules, which were released last month, offer users the chance to access OS/400 and SQL/400 files through personal computer support using optimised SQL. The modules join other modules from DataEase for OS/2 Database Manager, DB2, Sybase, Oracle and Microsoft Server.
