Synology has launched Disk Station Manager 2.2 beta that reportedly comes with a new DLNA compliant media server, iPhoneTM support, iSCSI support, Time Machine support, built-in firewall, SNMP support and many other features. Disk Station Manager 2.2 beta is said to be available free of charge for Disk Station users.
According to the company, the enhancements to the new offering include: Apple Time Machine support to allow Mac OS X users back up desktop data to their Disk Stations; iSCSI support for the creation of up to 10 iSCSI targets on a single Disk Station; auto-block support to extend its original FTP coverage to the management UI, File Station, SSH/Telnet, rsync and mobile devices; Surveillance Station 2 to support 50 additional camera models; and iTunes Server to support video playback.
Rosiel Lee, product manager of DSM 2.2, said: The DSM 2.2 delivers an exceptional multimedia experience. The new DLNA compliant media sever ensures interoperability between a Disk Station and a wide range of DLNA-compliant home devices, providing hassle-free digital content sharing.
Edward Lin, marketing director of Synology, said: iPhone support is highly anticipated since its introduction at Computex in June 2009. Two new iPhone applications, DS photo and DS audio, allow users to use an iPhone or iPod Touch to upload photos to and stream music from a Disk Station.
Other enhancements to the new offering include: Mobile Photo Station and File Station to allow remote mobile users access their Synology DiskStation on Windows Mobile 6.0 or iPhone OS 2.2.1 to view photos and read supported file formats where internet access is available; built-in firewall function to allow the administrator to decide which services or IP addresses are to be allowed to access the Disk Station to prevent unwanted connections; and SNMP protocol support to allow the administrator monitor Disk Station with existing network management software.
