SAP has launched the self-service business intelligence (BI) platform, Lumira, which was previously known as SAP Visual Intelligence software.

The new SAP Lumira Cloud, built on HTML5, is said to make development and delivery of new analysis faster, while reducing the need for IT support.

According to SAP, Lumira allows users to visualise data in real time, speed up decision-making with fact-based answers to business questions and increase self-service data usage without adding to the IT workload.

IDC program vice president Dan Vesset said that the companies need to capture the massive amounts of data and be able to quickly comprehend it all.

"SAP Lumira and SAP Lumira Cloud are a new options for enterprise self-service BI," Vesset said.

The cloud enables out-of-the-box integration with on-premise data, while offering support for SAP HANA.

The users can share, create and interact with data visualisations in the cloud – upload, download, share documents, create, explore, share and publish datasets from SAP Lumira, according to the company.

Additionally, the users can share analytics through Web browsers or mobile devices, upload and share other types of documents like SAP Crystal Reports software, files from SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
