Oracle has launched a new StorageTek T10000D Tape Drive, which is claimed to be the fastest and highest capacity tape drive, and accelerates cloud service providers’ monetisation capability.
The new device has 54% more capacity per cartridge compared to earlier generation and reduces users’ acquisition costs for data centre backup by 35%, the company claimed.
Capable of storing and retrieving data at up to 252 MB/sec, the new tape drive would enable users to meet objectives of backup recovery time and record SLAs with less tape drives.
According to Oracle, StorageTek T10000D is the first tape drive that supports both 16 Gb/s Fibre Channel and 10 Gb/s Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).
Oracle Hardware Development vice president James Cates said that with the fastest and highest capacity drive available, customers can accelerate massive consolidation of long-term archives, improve data centre efficiency, and lower TCO.
"When you add LTFS LE capabilities and Oracle innovations in both data integrity and monitoring, Oracle is taking a commanding lead in storage for long-term data retention and archiving," Cates said.
Oracle’s Linear Tape File System (LTFS), would enable consumers to drag-and-drop multiple LTO LTFS enabled volumes onto a single StorageTek T10000D cartridge for projects that incorporate large data.
The data integrity validation (DIV) feature of the new tape drive lets users to validate without any transfer of the data to the application, which would enable scheduling more frequent, less resource-intensive data reliability assessments over the life span of data.
