Peter S. Magnusson, former vice-president of engineering at Snapchat, has been named the new senior vice-president of Oracle.
Magnusson is expected to strength Oracle’s cloud computing services, as the company plans to offer new core database technology as a service in cloud, and cloud-ready version of Java to its customers.
Prior to working with Snapchat, Magnusson served as the director of engineering at Google where he built the search giant’s web app and cloud hosting platforms. He was a member of the team that built App Engine.
Snapchat, which was one of Google App Engines’ biggest customers, hired Magnusson earlier this year. However, he left Snapchat within six months.
At Oracle, Magnusson will work with Ellison and will report directly to Oracle’s EVP for product development Thomas Kurian.
Magnusson said: "What attracted me was the opportunity to come in at a senior level and have a lot of impact on what Oracle is doing."
