
Intel has invested in Cloudera to speed up customer adoption of big data applications in collaboration with the company.
As part of the deal, Intel will make a significant equity investment in Cloudera, under which it will be the preferred distributor of Big Data software.
Under the deal, Cloudera will combine its analytic data management software powered by Apache Hadoop with data centre architecture based on Intel Xeon technology to increase business value from data by implementing open source Apache Hadoop applications.
As part of the partnership, Cloudera will build and improve Cloudera’s Distribution including Apache Hadoop (CDH) for Intel architecture as its preferred platform to support new technologies like Intel fabrics, flash memory and security.
Intel Data Center Group senior vice president and general manager Diane Bryant said by aligning the Cloudera and Intel roadmaps, the companies are creating the platform of choice for big data analytics.
"We expect to accelerate industry adoption of the Hadoop data platform and enable companies to mine their data for insights that inform the business," Bryant added.
"This collaboration spans our data center technology from compute to network, security and storage, and extends to our initiatives for the Internet of Things."
Intel will promote CDH and Cloudera Enterprise and work with Cloudera for to shift from IDH/IDP.
Cloudera chief executive officer Tom Reilly said teaming with Intel presents an opportunity for the company to layer Hadoop into a platform’s core framework.
"The result is rapid performance improvements on workloads such as those extracting intelligent insight," Reilly added.
