Integrated Device Technology has introduced a JEDEC-compliant memory buffer for DDR3 (MB3).
The device, which the company claims is an industry first, is expected to enable a new generation of DDR3 memory technology for servers, workstations and storage equipment.
The IDT MB3 device increases server memory capacity, reliability and scalability, said the company.
IDT Enterprise Computing Division vice president and general manager Mario Montana said, "LRDIMM is a critical technology to enhance server performance in virtualized environments such as Cloud Computing."
The IDT MB301L is designed for use in load-reduced dual in-line memory modules at up to DDR3-1600 speeds at 1.5V and 1.35V.
The device also delivers full source synchronous DRAM training algorithms, flexible pattern generation, error insertion/detection, and on-die scope capability via software, said the company.
Unlike RDIMMs, the performance of LRDIMMs does not significantly degrade as the number of DIMMs in a channel increases, said the company.
The comoany said the device is sampling now in a MBG-588 package. It is compatible with JEDEC LRDIMM modules designs, it added.
