IBM and Sybase, an SAP company, have introduced mCommerce Appliance, a new workload-optimised server appliance based on IBM’s Power Systems family of servers.
The IBM mCommerce Appliance offering, which the company claims is the industry’s first integrated mCommerce offering, is aimed at financial institutions, mobile operators and enterprises.
The new appliance is designed to enable rapid global deployment of mobile commerce capabilities including mBanking, mPayments and mRemmitance in both developed and emerging markets.
The company said the Appliance can also help customers to run banking business applications from mobile devices, such as tablets and smartphones powered by iOS, Blackberry and Android operating systems.
The new mCommerce solutions are individually configured, workload-optimised and tuned to provide clients high-performance mobile business capabilities at lower costs, said the company.
The IBM mCommerce Appliance features IBM POWER7-based Power 750 servers running IBM DB2 information management software and IBM WebSphere software application server, IBM System Storage DS5300 and the end-to-end Sybase mCommerce 365 solution.
IBM Power and z Systems general manager Tom Rosamilia said the IBM mCommerce Appliance is designed to meet the needs of their clients’ most data-intensive applications.
