With a wide-reaching upgrade for the company’s Admire forms-based transaction processing tools due by mid-year, Digital Equipment Corp has come out with a dot release of its Windows-based DECAdmire for Visual Basic on OpenVMS. The rapid application development tool uses an OpenVMS repository for generating Visual Basic application objects, forms definitions, stored procedures and project files. DECAdmire supports Visual Basic clients with enhanced Open Database Connectivity, accessing Rdb, Oracle and Microsoft Corp SQL Server databases. It also supports Visual Basic clients with generic Open Database Connectivity, accessing any Database Connectivity-compliant database on any system and ACMS, Application Control & Management System, on servers. DEC claims that it now has 135 Admire customers and is seeking 300 more by the end of the year. Prices start at $700.
