Intel Corp is doing itself no favours with its itchy trigger finger that causes it to reach for its lawyers every time a competitor moves, and rather than run the risk of more writs from Intel, Cyrix Corp has decided to create its own iAPX-86 interrupt architecture for multiprocessor desktop computers. The Richardson, Texas company has announced SLiC/MP, a new open interrupt architecture for mult-processor desktop computers, which supports major operating systems, and iAPX-86 and PowerPC-based systems. The architecture can be integrated into existing single processor chip sets, Cyrix says. The architecture can be integrated into single processor chip sets through the use of Verilog logic models from Cyrix. SLiC/MP is available now and over a dozen chip set vendors have licensed the architecture. First International Computer Inc, Taiwan’s largest motherboard manufacturer, will have a SLiC/MP-based motherboard available in the fourth quarter of 1994.
