Amazon’s streaming service Twitch has warned its users that it may have suffered a data breach that could have compromised people’s personal information.

Account holders on the site were notified of the problem on Monday in an email, with Twitch announcing that it had reset passwords and disconnected social media accounts as a security measure.

A message from the Twitch Staff on the official blog read: "We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorised access to some Twitch user account information.

"For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account."

Information potentially compromised in the attack included usernames, email addresses, encrypted passwords, the last IP address a user logged in from and any personal information supplied by the user, including name, phone number, physical address and date of birth.

The company also warned its users to change any passwsords they may have reused on other sites.

Twitch was bought last August by Amazon for just short of $1bn (£670m), having made its name as a popular site for watching people play video games. It was earlier rumoured to be being bought by Google.
