Austin, Texas-based Crystal Semiconductor Corp has developed an audio chip to support Dolby Digital Surround and Dolby Pro Logic applications. The Cirrus Logic Inc subsidiary said the CS4226 chip can replace as many as nine discrete, integrated circuits in an AC-3 home theater application, reducing the cost of these systems. The chip is $32 for 1,000-up. Samples are available now with production quantities planned for next quarter.
