Marlborough, Massachusetts-based CrossComm Corp has announced its next-generation network management system for integrating the management of branch office networks, in the form of Virtual On-site Technology. CrossComm is trumpeting the offering as the first to provide end-to-end management – down to the remote office level – from the corporate network. The system is described as having a three-tier structure, with the first level comprising a new version, Release 7.1, of the company’s Simple Network Management Protocol-based Internetwork Management Software, which is based on Hewlett-Packard Co’s OpenView for Windows, integrated with standards-based remote monitoring capabilities using Resident Monitor. The new version is further said to include new features such as a wide area network Line Monitor, hub management for hub modules integrated with the company’s XL integrated branch routers, diagnostics security, and single device event history for device-specific troubleshooting. This is to cost $6,000 for a single-user licence. Level 2 is a package consisting of the network management software plus troubleshooting services from CrossComm’s Network Services Group; charges for these services are said to begin at a monthly base of 8% of the cost of the router. Finally, Level 3 incorporates new help desk and call tracking software, claimed to expedite problem resolution. Dubbed ExpertHelper, it is said to use electronic mail services to route network alarms to the company’s engineers. A licence for Expert-Helper is to cost $9,500 for a single licence. Availability is by the end of September.
