Continued strong demand for Cray Research Inc’s supercomputers is likely to raise the group’s worldwide revenue by 5% to $900m this year, senior vice-president Carl Diem said in Singapore, where he was visiting to sign a contract to supply the National University of Singapore with the latest Cray J916 minisupercomputer costing $1m; sale of Cray supercomputers is projected to double at least to about 80 machines this year, as a result of the launch of the smaller models; the Cray J916 will be used to train students and researchers in science, engineering and medicine.
