Just to prove it is interested in combining the offerings of its various software acquisitions, CP Software Inc has launched Island InTEXT for Windows, the first of its Island Information Management Series of information and document management tools. The product is designed to enable users to search, retrieve, skim-read and manage documents across the network, and to create and publish documents using the companion word-processor products on CD-ROM or standard media. A feature called SmartFolders automatically sorts and categorises documents as they are created or received, while a ‘heuristic’ architecture skim-reads documents to provide summaries, hypertext links and keywords. There is a natural language search facility and run-time viewing capability so that the original word processing package is not needed. It costs $400. A Unix version is due next quarter, and will work with other word processors as well as Island Write, Draw and Paint. On the Today front, CP has just announced a conversion utility for Hewlett-Packard Co AllBase users and says it is getting a good response.
