Convex Computer Corp, which is now also a builder of the massively parallel Precision Architecture RISC-based Exemplar machines, will announce the next generation of its long-standing proprietary C series of minisupercomputers, the C4 line, this summer. C4s will use a similar Gallium Arsenide CPU architecture as the existing high-end C3800. The company admits that the C series remain its bread and butter for at least another year or more, but it is hoping to move all C series customers over to Exemplar over time. A fifth of the Richardson, Texas-based company’s business is now devoted to data management and big input-output systems. It says it has shipped seven of the parallel Exemplars so far.
