Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Control Data Corp has released a series of single and multi-processor network servers based on the MIPS Computer Systems Inc RISC-based family it buys in from Silicon Graphics Inc. The Cyber 920 servers offer performance ranging from 14 MIPS to 80 MIPS, and 1.5 MFLOPS to 15 MFLOPS, and all run the Irix implementation of Unix System V.3. The servers are targetted at workstation users in the automotive, aerospace and research organisations; the single processor model is positioned as a file server for small groups of workstations, the multi-processor models as compute servers. The single-processor Cyber 920-161 and dual-processor 920-162, both 16.7MHz models, are available now: the two-processor Cyber 920-252 and four- processor Cyber 920-254, both 25MHz, follow this month; prices are from $27,000 to $100,000.
