London-based Computer Management Group Ltd has introduced an in house version of its payroll system, Payfact 2000 for delivery in the fourth quarter. The system has been running for over a year under MVS on an IBM 4381 within the company’s bureau operations, and the present list of 2,000 customers includes Prime Computer, Racal Vodafone and Reuters. At a sales seminar for a number of potential in-house clients, CMG cited various features of Payfact 2000 that it reckons will make CMG number one in the UK payroll market. These include remote data entry screens and linkage with other office systems such as time, attendance and personnel records. The cost of Payfact 2000 will vary according to company needs and employees, but perhaps in an effort to maximise returns, CMG is expressing a strong preference for rental rather than outright sale of licences. The company plans to develop a European-wide system with in the next 18 months, but accepts that tax, national insurance and other deductions vary from country to country, and such a system would have to be flexible enough to cater for national differences.
