It appears that rumours have been flying suggesting management shake- ups and firing of salespeople at Computer Associates International Inc, and the Garden City, New York company has rushed out statements to set the record straight: Brian Sheppard has not been fired as president of the information systems and products division, he has simply temporarily ceded the post to chairman Charles Wang so that he can lead for the company on the acquisition of Cullinet Software Inc and its integration into Computer Associates, and will resume his post once that is complete; the company insists that no salespeople have been laid off, although a couple have been dismissed because their performance was below par; the rumour mongers had driven the share price down by 14% over two trading days, but the denials helped to steady it, and it closed 25 cents ahead at $17.125 on Thursday.
