Following Compaq Computer Corp chief executive Ekhard Pfeiffer’s decision not to include Digital Equipment Corp CEO, Bob Palmer in Compaq’s post acquisition senior management structure (CI No 3,429), Pfeiffer has revealed his full team, and it included only three DEC staff. John Rando, former DEC senior vice president and group manager of DEC’s services division will assume the same role at Compaq. And Compaq’s Tandem Computers Inc division will be consolidated in to the Enterprise Computing Group, along with its Communications Products Group. Details as to Tandem’s name and identity are not known at the moment, but it is understood that the Compaq and Tandem services groups will both report to Rando. Tom Seikman will be senior VP, general counsel and secretary at Compaq, the same role he had at DEC, while DEC’s chief technical officer and senior VP, Bill Strecker will be senior VP of technology and corporate development. The only other position to go to a ‘non-Compaq’ employee is that of senior VP of marketing, which will go to Tandem division president Enrico Pesatori. Pfeiffer said he has chosen the team because he believes it is the best combination to lead the future Compaq. Original Compaq staff to be included in the senior management team are; Hans Gutsch, senior VP of Human Resources and Environment; Michael Heil, senior VP and general manager for Worldwide sales and marketing; Earl Mason, chief financial officer and senior VP for Finance and Administration; John Rose, senior VP and group general manager for the Enterprise Computing division; Rod Schrock, VP and group general manager of Consumer Products; John White, chief information officer and VP of Information Management; Michael Winkler, senior VP and group general manager of PC products. All people in these positions will report directly to Pfeiffer.
