Commenting on its splendid year-end figures (CI No 612), Compaq Computer Corp says that demand for the Deskpro 386 outran its ability to shell the machines out of its Houston pod for all of the fourth quarter of 1986, and that the hot new machine that sets the early industry standard for 80386 boxes, was a significant contributor to fourth quarter profit up 62% at $16.2m.
