Compaq Computer Corp has teamed with BMC Software Inc to further its platform management capabilities for Windows NT. Compaq says the two have struck a deal that will see BMC’s Patrol NT technology incorporated into Compaq’s Insight Manager systems management product. The deal is important to BMC because it also includes and agreement to jointly build channels for the sale of Patrol products. Patrol becomes the only operating system management technology to be combined with Insight Manager, creating a single product which will ship soon with all Compaq ProLiant and ProSignia servers. The two companies are using Web- based Enterprise Management technologies as the building blocks for the joint product, which is the first offering out of their combined laboratory in Houston. Through the new lab, BMC and Compaq plan to develop advanced application management technology for users of ProLiant and ProSignia servers running NT, which will support a variety of applications such as Baan, SAP, IIS and Exchange and underlying databases.
