Filling the router gap in its product line, Cisco Systems Inc, Menlo Park, California has definitive agreement to acquire the privately-held developer of software-based local and wide area network multiprotocol router manufacturer Newport Systems Solutions Inc, of Newport Beach, California. Cisco is paying about 4.2m new shares for it, valuing the firm at $96m. Newport has an installed base of over 20,000 routers.
